Headed up to Eldora for Xander's first ski day of the season. Xander has new skis and boots this season and having only skied once last year is already a "totally awesome" skier. We have been getting him excited about ski season for the last month at least, its all about attitude.
I got Xander up to the slope and he was really excited to go skiing. He thought all the other skiers looked like they were having so much fun. All was well until we were actually ready to get him dressed. As soon as I pulled out the ski pants he threw a total fit. He DID NOT want to go skiing and he wanted to GO HOME. The way he was shrieking I think most of the mountain could hear him. I wheedled and cajoled and got him in his ski pants and boots on. All of a sudden the idea of skiing became more fun again. I got him on his skis and skiing was again totally awesome. I pulled him up the hill a little bit and then ran down behind him holding his hands as he skied down. That lasted about two runs until he only wanted "one hand daddy". Two more runs like that and he was skiing down on his own! Xander is now a "point and shoot" skier. He can't turn, he can't slow down, but he definitely can go. I just have to be there to stop him from running into anything. The first time Xander went down on his own he giggled the entire way. Skiing is so much fun. He got the the bottom and said that he wanted to jump on his skis so he proceeded to jump up and down and up and down. I asked him if he wanted to jump off a cornice. YES, he said, RIGHT NOW! I said maybe we should wait until he was a little bit older, at least until next week (Xander will always be "much older" next week...).
After about 15 runs we headed back to the lodge for hot cocoa and then back out with Erin and Maya too. We all enjoyed some time out on the snow together before heading home.
