Been there! Expect a repeat every 7-10 years. It looks like you had some exterior corrosion. Did it it break through or were your problems confined to the interior with lots of water and garbage backup? Either way, what a mess!
Broke through in that spot by the seem in pic #2- but any of those spots were about to go too so it was likely a race. Yuck. We bought a better one with stainless steel innards, so we're hoping it lasts longer.
On the bright side, I learned how to install a garbage disposal...
